We’ve seen mockups of the upcoming Google Nexus 5 and Nexus 6 smartphones. Now we may have the first photographic evidence of the 2015 Nexus 5.

Inno Yudha posted a picture showing the back of a device that looks a lot like the mockups to the Nexus Indonesia community on Google+.

Update: There’s some question of whether this photo has been faked… or if a photo purporting to show that the Nexus image is a fake is itself faked.

nexus 5 wild

If this isn’t the real deal, someone went through a lot of trouble to make a fake that matches the leaked images that made the rounds a few days ago.

As expected, the phone seems to have a fingerprint sensor on the back, a raised camera, round edges, and a Nexus logo.

There are also a bunch of stickers obscuring parts of the view — but if you’re wondering what the phone looks like without the stickers, redditor DeadSalas applied some Photoshop magic to give us a better (albeit slightly more fake) look.

The new Nexus 5 is expected to be manufactured by LG and feature a 5.2 inch display and a USB Type C port. Some early reports have suggested that the phone will have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, although it’s possible it could use a different chip. It’s also not clear if this model will have a 1920 x 1080 pixel or a 2560 x 1440 pixel display (although the upcoming Huawei Nexus 6 will most likely have a 1440p display).

  1. Still using my original Nexus 5 after almost 2 years. I am trying to hold out for a new nexus 5 or maybe project Ara (doubtful).

The thing I want the most as an improvement: more battery.

    1. I’m still rocking my Nexus 4 from 2012. I don’t want to upgrade, but I’d consider it for M, the fingerprint scanner (which I’ll probably get bored of after two days) and plastic body (although I’ve never had a problem, not even a raised eyebrow, I’ve always been apprehensive about the glass back of the N4).

The N4 battery life almost doubled with 4.4->5.x

      1. Hmmm, I have been holding off on upgrading from 4.4 to 5.1 on my nexus 5 because I heard that it makes the battery life worse. (And I hate the material design of 5.x)

      2. I have a Note 4 with Fingerprint scanner. I’m sure you’ve heard people say it isn’t the best (if you’ve heard people say anything about the Note 4 fingerprint sensor, anyway) – I can no longer do without it.

Like you, I thought it’d be sort of gimmicky but actually using it works very well. I don’t find it as difficult as others (the trick is to register your dominant hand’s thumb AND index finger and 1 finger from your non-dominant hand). I’d never get another phone without a fingerprint sensor – though I do hope the next one I get requires a press vs. a swipe.

I’m not interested in the N5 2015, but I am eagerly awaiting details on the N6 2015. My wife has my previous 4 as she really didn’t need the upgrade to the 5, which I turned back into TMo under Jump. This year I’m thinking of doing the N6 for me (or the Note 5, need to play with one and feel if it’s worth it or an iPhone 6S, yuck but still maybe) and a N5 2015 for my wife.

  2. I would buy one if it were unlocked and able to work on at least 3 of the major 4 networks and was in every other respect a general improvement over the Nexus 5.
