Samsung has launched a new smartphone that has a bigger display than the Galaxy S6, but which has a thinner case design. The Samsung Galaxy A8 is a mid-range phone which is launching in China. There’s no word on if or when it’ll be available in other countries.
The phone has a 5.7 inch display and a case that measures just 5.9mm thick. For comparison, the Samsung Galaxy S6 has a 5.1 inch screen and a 6.9mm case.
The rest of the specs for the Galaxy A8 make it clear that this mid-range phone isn’t designed to compete with Samsung’s latest flagship devices.
It features a 1920 x 1080 pixel AMOLED display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor, 2GB of RAM, up to 32GB of storage, a microSd card slot, and a non-removable 3,050 mAh battery. The phone has a 16MP rear camera, a 5MP front camera, and Android 5.1 Lollipop software.
The Samsung Galaxy A8 supports 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 4.1, and NFC and it features a fingerprint scanner.
Hoping to buy a Chinese model and import it to the US or Europe? Sadly, the version of the phone Samsung is currently offering only supports Chinese 4G LTE networks.
