Chinese device maker Pipo is showing off its first PC-on-a-stick with an Intel Atom processor and support for Windows or Android software.
Notebook Italia got a look at an early prototype of the new Pipo X1 at Computex last month, and now the specs for the upcoming PC stick have been confirmed.
Not surprisingly, the Pipo X1 has the same basic hardware as an Intel Compute Stick: it seems that most of these mini PC sticks are based on Intel’s reference design.
The Pipo X1 features an Intel Atom Z3735F processor, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a microSD card reader, a micro USB port for power, and a full-sized USB port.
Unlike the Intel Compute Stick though, the Pipo X1 also has a second micro USB port which you can use to connect peripherals. That means you could connect a keyboard and mouse to this model without a USB hub… although you may need a USB-to-micro USB adapter.
Also unlike Intel’s Compute Stick, Pipo’s model also has a fanless design and a metal case with extra ventilation.
The little computer supports 802.11n WiFi and Bluetooth.
If the Pipo X1 name sounds familiar, you’ve been hanging around these parts too long. Pipo launched an Android-powered TV Stick with a Rockchip processor and the same name more than a year ago.
Pipo plans to offer the new X1 with a choice of Windows or Android, and the system may also be available with a dual-OS option that lets you choose the operating system at boot.
Where are the cherry trail pc sticks?
Realtek chip? Pass.
I wonder if it comes with a licensed version of Windows.
I’d guess so given their past devices. MeegoPad made the mistake of not including a licence with the MeegoPad T01 and it burned them pretty bad.
I would be interested to see how hot this runs, considering its the same chip intel used for the compute, which still has heat issues and that the pipo x7s were known for poor heat dissipation..
I hope the WiFi chip isn’t made by Realtek.
You can see Realtek logo in video. Most likely it will use same chip as virtually every tablet using now – 8723bs. On my Cube i6 this chip is causing serious drops in wifif speed once it connects any BT device, don’t know if it’s the same on other tablets.
How much will it cost?
I’d guess around the $100 mark given the price point we’ve seen for their larger Windows boxes.
Wonder if that PiPo will really only have 1GB of RAM, like the other X1?
