Moov launched its first fitness tracker a little over a year ago, and now the company’s back with a new model called MOOV NOW.

The wearable fitness tracker can monitor a lot more than your steps, and the updated version is smaller, offers longer battery life, and has other improvements.

You can pre-order the MOOV NOW for $60, which is $40 off the eventual retail price.

The MOOV NOW lasts up to 6 months on a charge, thanks to a non-rechargeable watch battery. It’s also available in a range of colors. The new model can also work with third-party heart rate monitors.

And even at full retail price, it’s cheaper than its predecessor, which sold for $150.

What really sets MOOV’s devices apart from the competition are the ways it can monitor a range of activities and pair with a smartphone app to basically act as a digital coach: strap it to your ankle when you’re running or cycling and it can provide tips about your stride or motivation to reach your goals. Put it on your wrist while you’re swimming and it can offer advice then too (since it’s waterproof).

You can also use two MOOV NOW units at once: Put one on each arm, for instance, and it can do a better job of tracking your movements while swimming or cardio boxing. The full retail price for 2 units will be $198, but you can pre-order a 2-pack for $100 or get 3 or more for $50 each.

Incidentally, today seems to be a big day for fitness tracker announcements… and for products with NOW spelled in capital letters.

  1. IMHO, it looks a little ugly and it certainly doesn’t seem to match up with the other options that are available out there today. Sure, it has a long battery life. But my FitBit ChargeHR has about a week battery life and that seems to be good enough (not too burdensome). Wearing two of them is novel, but I would also think it would be a royal pain in the arse. Minimal is good.

I’m still really waiting for the next (or 2nd next?) generation of fitness devices that also include GPS so I don’t have to bring my phone with me when I go running. What a pain.

    1. This device serves a different purpose to the Fitbit; it is intended to be worn only during a workout. It is more of a ‘athletic trainer’ than a ‘life style coach’.

From their FAQ maximum ‘record time’ of the Classic is 90 mins, but that’s full position/attitude of device not just the number of steps. This is where wearing two devices can really benefit during boxing or swimming.
