Google has released a new beta of its web browser for Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, and Chrome OS. Google Chrome 45 beta includes support for new JavaScript features, improved service worker features (for allowing web apps to work even when you don’t have an internet connection), and more.
One of the most useful updates is designed specifically for Android: Users will be able to play and pause audio or video playback from some web apps by tapping a button in the notification tray.
When you visit a website with the <audio> or <video> tag and the media plays for 5 seconds or longer, an icon will show up in your notification tray. Then you’ll be able to pull down from the top of the screen to see a play/pause icon… just like the one you would see if media was playing from a native Android app.
Other new features in Chrome 45 beta include improvements to the Push API, improved scroll performance, and a security update to protect users from the Logjam Attack.
Are you sure 45 is available for Android? I literally just updated Chrome Beta and it’s still on 44. This media control feature is a great one and much needed.
