The Apple Watch may be one of the most expensive smartwatches on the market, but it’s also probably one of the most profitable.

Apple hasn’t said exactly how many watches it has sold since the company launched its first wearable in April. But the Associated Press reports that it we “well over” $950 million dollars.

According to Apple’s latest earnings report, the company brought in $2.6 billion in revenue from “other products,” which includes the Apple Watch, but not products such as iPhones, iPads, and Macs. That’s about $952 million more than the revenue from “other products” during the previous quarter… which has led some to wonder if that’s roughly how much money the Watch brought in.

But speaking to the AP, Apple CFO Luca Maestri said the actual figure was much higher.

We don’t know just how much higher… or how many watches had to be sold to get to that number. Are we talking about millions of $350 Apple Watch Sport models or tens of thousands of $10,000+ Apple Watch Edition models?

Most of the reviews I’ve seen of the Apple Watch suggest it’s a nice piece of digital jewelry that could be useful depending on how you use the technology. But reviewers also have a habit of suggesting that many people might be better served waiting for Apple to release the Apple Watch 2, which could offer a better feature set.

Or you could save some money and buy a cheaper smartwatch like an Asus Zenwatch, Moto 360, or Pebble… all of which are available for $150 or less.

  1. I stopped wearing a watch when I got a cellphone. I stopped wearing my wedding band too (got permission first for that). People don’t own apple watches, the watch owns them.

  2. Speculation and deflection. Other products are also Apple Care. Subscription services. Icloud. Beats headphones…

  3. I wonder when they’re going to start selling “apple bricks”. Seems like just that logo by itself is gold.

    1. You’re pushing it a little bit, but only a little bit. You’re right they’re on a roll. The watch is still worth something though, there’s some good engineering inside, both electronics and material. Still impressive how much profit Apple manages to make these days. IIRC Ipods 5% of their sales, brings 2B$… well done AAPL, well done.
