Asus currently offers the Zenfone 2 smartphone with two screen size options. There’s a 5.5 inch version with a 1920 x 1080 pixel display, and a 5.0 inch model with a 1280 x 720 pixel display (although the smaller model isn’t officially sold in the US).

Now it looks like the company has a third option: Asus is showing off a 6 inch Zenfone 2 at the Computex show in Taiwan this week.

zenfone 2 ze600kl

The Asus Zenfone 2 ZE600KL has the same design as its smaller siblings, but it has a 6 inch screen. Oddly the screen is a 720p display, which means the phone has a bigger, but lower resolution display than the version currently sold in the US.

While the phone looks like the smaller Zenfone models, the screen isn’t the only thing that’s different. This model has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 octa-core, 64-bit processor instead of an Intel Atom chip. And it has a laser auto-focus feature for its 13MP rear camera.

Asus will offer the phone with 2GB or 3GB of RAM and 16GB or 32GB of storage. You can also remove the rear cover to access a microSD card slot.

Mobile Geeks reports the Zenfone 2 ZE600KL should be available later this year for $399 and up… although it’s not clear what markets the phone will be sold in.

  1. What is the use of introducing new models without made availabile in the market ? Asus Zenfone 2 is not available in India even after introduction of couple of months ago. Only selected models (which the customers do not like) are available. I was waiting for long time for Asus Zenfone 2 and bought Lenovo A7000.

  2. It looks like Asia is very sensitive to screen size, but less sensitive to resolution. I would not expect this version to come to the US. I wish that they had used a 6inch 1080 screen for the US version (it could have been good competition against Nexus 6).

    1. 720p is too low on a 5.5″ let alone a 6″ device, Asus Zenfone 6 launched last year(India & Asia elsewhere) was an absolute flop, and no ones going to buy this either. I would love to own one with 1080 as i am currently stuck with a 5.5″ unit as Nexus 6 costs way too much for a ph (INR40,000 = $650).

  3. lol clicked wondering if they went 1440p on it so the details were rather surprising.

  4. I’ve been wondering for ever why smartphones makers don’t offer a choice of screen sizes / resolutions. People feel strongly about screen size, laptop families usually come in 11, 13, 15 and 17 ranges with the same innards… I understand you’ve got size constraints, but you can play on thickness a bit to accommodate an adequate battery and other doodads on the smaller phone…
That way you can focus marketing and OS updates on one single product.

  5. So it costs $100 more than the 64gb Asus Zenfone 2 and has lower resolution screen and slower processor? Why?
