KFC is known for serving up messy food that you eat with your fingers… so you might not want to fiddle with your smartphone and smudge the screen while eating at the fast food chain. One solution? Use a Bluetooth keyboard that’s wipeable (and cheap) instead.
So as part of a marketing stunt in Germany, new KFC stores provided customers with serving trays sporting a KFC Tray Typer instead of a normal sheet of paper.
The Tray Typer is basically a super-thin, flexible Bluetooth keyboard designed to fit in a typical tray and look a lot like any other promotional materials you might get with your food order.
But unlike a piece of paper, this tray has a rechargeable battery, a QWERTY keyboard, and Bluetooth for connecting to your phone.
Hoping to get your hands on a Tray Typer? They’re all gone. But there are plenty of other rollable Bluetooth keyboards on the market, with some models priced below $20.

I call bulllhockey. “Geolocated social media discussions skyrocketed”? So why is each and every mention on Twitter either their marketing blurb or an article citing their marketing blurb? Why isn’t there a single image anywhere showing it in the wild, taken by an actual customer? “We handed out the Tray Typer in newly opened restaurants” … this year, they opened exactly ONE new restaurant in Germany.
Let me guess how many of those have actually been made. How many do you see in that video?
They are having a hard time in Germany, since more Germans really care about decent food quality. Which KFC and alike do not provide.
This just raise all kinds of red flags. Anyone can get their hands on it, just imagine someone maliciously install a keylogger.
