Sony may not be making a lot of money in the smartphone business. But the company is still cranking out new models. A few weeks ago the company unveiled the Sony Xperia Z4 high-end smartphone. Now Sony is updating its mid-range Xperia C series.

Like last year’s Xperia C3, the new Sony Xperia C4 is a “selfie smartphone” thanks to a relatively high-quality 5MP front-facing camera. But the new model has a higher resolution display, twice as much memory and storage, and a few other improvements.

The Sony Xperia C4 features a 5.5 inch, 1920 x 1080 pixel display, a MediaTek MTK6752 octa-core, 64-bit processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, and a microSd card slot.

It features WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC, 4G LTE (in some markets), and the phone sports a 2600 mAh battery. It runs Google Android 5.0 Lollipop software.

Overall, it has the specs of a decent mid-range phone. But Sony hopes the phone’s cameras will help it stand out.

There’s a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front-facing camera. The front camera has a 25mm wide-angle lens, an LED flash, and support for HDR photos.

Sony also includes a versatile camera app and a offers a camera add-on API that lets third-party developers create apps that can be integrated with the default camera app.

Sony says the Xperia C4 will be available in select markets this June. It’ll be available in dual SIM or single SIM variants.

  1. Why Is the Liliputing site suddenly rendering with a blue background with gray text, almost impossible to read..? Is that IE’s fault? (which I’m temporarily using cause Firefox crashed…)

    1. I can’t replicate that. Sounds like it might be an issue with a browser add-on or something else on your PC. Let me know if the issue doesn’t go away after you clear the cache and/or reboot your PC or try a different browser.

      1. Thanks for your message…

Since I posted this, I kept having that issue off and on, even on one other site… By now, I believe it has to do with particularly slow internet speeds – (I have an extremely unreliable 3rd world ISP called ‘Globe’ where I’m currently traveling) Sometimes their speed is fine but more often than not, it suddenly slows to such a crawl, some pages never complete loading.

So I’d say its not Liliputing’s site specifically, but it does appear there’s something in the code of *some* sites, that gets you a blue background render on incomplete page load.

  2. Price it right unlocked and its a pretty sweet phone. I still trust Sony quality.

    1. The original Sony Z phone had me trusting their quality too, at least, I didn’t get hit by the problem with the rear panel coming off (which I also didn’t know about till recently)

Then I bought an Xperia Z2 and after less than 6 months, the very hot running camera and processor cooked the glue holding the back panel and it popped off with no external cause.

Trying to get a warranty repair turned out impossible if you’re traveling – no international warranty.
Even a repair for hard cash turned out impossible! Sony’s website tech support had sent me to a nearby service center. Upon arrival there, they told me 1) no warranty from another country accepted, 2) only a few very large service centers world wide are allowed to work on the waterproof line of phones, so they can’t touch it anyway.

I had to have Amazon forward me a new phone from my home country or be without phone for the rest of the trip. Hint: I didn’t pick a Sony model… Even though I like their design the best by far, and I also prefer their lightweight Android skin. Its software wasn’t too reliable either though, the Z2 kept forgetting basic settings on reboot. With no custom keyboard installed at all, it kept asking me what keyboard to use on every boot up.
