For the past few years Samsung has launched an “Active” version of its flagship smartphones, offering a rugged case for folks that like a phone that can take a beating.
So now that the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge are available, where’s the Galaxy S6 Active? Samsung hasn’t announced the phone yet, but a flurry of leaks suggest it’s coming soon.
The folks at GSM Arena received a photo that allegedly shows what the phone will look like, along with some basic specs for the device.
Evan Blass, who seems to have a hard time resisting the urge to leak upcoming product photos, has posted a few more pictures that seem to confirm the device’s existence (and design).
And G for Games noticed an FCC listing for an item with a model number that’s awfully close to the model number for last year’s Samsung Galaxy S5 Active.
So it certainly looks like the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active is coming. It appears to be ready to run on AT&T’s network in the US, although it’s not clear if it will be available exclusively through that carrier. And if GSM Arena’s source is correct, it looks like the phone will feature some pretty powerful hardware.
It’s said to pack a 5.1 inch, 2560 x 1440 pixel Super AMOLED display, a Samsung Exynos 7420 octa-core processor, a 3,500 mAh battery, a 16MP rear camera, and a 5MP front camera.
There are many 3rd party cases out there for Samsung phones already. I am surprised there is a market for a rugged phone from the OEM.
Better be more durable than galaxy s5 active which cracked when dropped
It’s kinda funny how Samsung still maintains the Xcover series of rugged phones as well as this Active line…
But they don’t have an updated xcover, or do they?
Att had the Samsung rugby smart and galaxy rugby pro which were like rebranded xcovers.
Those phones lagged horrible and I had a friend who cracked high galaxy rugby, he actually broke it recently.
They did release a Xcover 3 recently.
