Want to build a smart sprinkler system that can water the lawn with varying amounts of water depending on the weather forecast? How about a fish feeder that can be activated remotely using an app? Or a tea-brewing robot that removes the bag when the tea is ready.

There’s a new modular electronics kit that can let you build all of those things and more. Modulo is a modular kit that’s designed to be easy-to-use and which can be paired with popular hardware including Raspberry Pi, Arduino, or other devices.

Modula consists of a set of tiny modular circuit boards that you snap into place with connectors to create custom projects, sans circuit assembly: There’s no wiring or soldering required. The company that created the design for the kit is seeking crowdfunding on Kickstarter.

The kit stars with a base, which is designed to hold up to four mini circuit boards. Mini boards include such things as a controller, display, motor drive, knob, and joystick. If you need more than four mini circuit boards for your project, you can daisy chain multiple bases together using the Spark Base.

Modulo works alone or with Spark, Python, Arduino, and Raspberry Pi (including the recently reduced-price B+ model).

In addition to the Modulo kit, there are various enclosure designs that will be freely given as a PDF so you can print them out on a 3-D printer.

There are a number of different pledge levels for the Kickstarter campaign. You can pledge for a specific kit, like the Knob, Display, or Motor kit starting at $79. Or, you can go all-in and get every module, the base, the Spark Base, and a temperature probe for $249.

You can also really go wild with multipacks of everything starting at $439. The Kickstarter campaign ends June 2 and shipping of the Modulo is expected for Nov. 2015.

  1. I’m so fed up with cool projects I’m interested to buy but being in early Kickstarter stage. Please don’t report it until it’s shipping! Am I the only one feeling like this?

    1. You’re the only one dude.
