The ZTE Spro 2 is a portable projector that also happens to be a WiFi hotspot… or vice versa. You can also use it as a portable power bank to recharge your smartphone battery on the go.
ZTE introduced the Spro 2 in January and it goes on sale this week.
Starting April 24th, AT&T will sell the ZTE Spro 2 for $400 with a 2-year contract or $500 without.
You can use the device to connect to AT&T’s 4G LTE network and share your internet connection with up to 10 devices including laptops or tablets.
You can also use the device as a portable projector to beam content on a wall or screen. It has a 200 lumen lamp and throws images at 1280 x 720 pixels.
While you can hook up the projector to your phone or tablet thanks to HDMI and Miracast input, you can also use it as a standalone device. It runs Google Android 4.4 software, has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of built-in storage, dual-band 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 4,0, a microSD card slot, and a 5 inch, 720p touchscreen display. You can use it to display movies, business presentations, or just about anything else that you could access on an Android phone.
ZTE says you dhould be able to get up to 2.5 hours of projection time from the Spro 2’s 6300 mAh battery. It should be able to run much longer if you’re using it as a hotspot.
The ZTE Spro 2 measures 5.3″ x 5.2″ x 1.2. and weighs about 1.2 pounds.
It’s an odd device that combines a bunch of functions you may not have known you needed in a single device. But hey, at least there’s nothing else like it… other than the original ZTE Projector Hotspot, I suppose.
I am not convinced there is a market for this “swiss army knife” type of device. The resolution of these projectors really needs to be 1080p if they are going to make them.
This is actually quite interesting, especially for small business owners such as myself. You could buy this for work and turn around and stream a movie for the kiddos thereafter and still write it off…However,I’m gonna wait for a few reviews before I commit to $500.
