Not sure why Microsoft needs separate stores for Windows apps, music, and videos? Neither is Microsoft… so the company is bringing them all together into a single Store.

If you’re running a recent preview of Windows 10 just fire up the Windows Store app and it’ll download an update, relaunch, and show you a new store that has sections for Apps, Games, and Movies & TV.

Microsoft plans to add a music section within a few weeks.

For now you can download the latest preview versions of the Music and Video apps for Windows 10 which will be integrated with the Store at a later date.

Among other things, the unified store will give you a one-stop shopping experience when looking for digital content sold by Microsoft (much the way the Google Play Store already does for Android users).

Since your downloads and purchases will be tied to your Microsoft account, you’ll also be able to install free or paid apps, rent videos, or buy music on your PC and access the same content on a Windows Phone, Xbox One, or other supported device.

  1. The windows app store is one of the saddest i have ever seen… If Microsoft have guts they’ll find a way to incorporate Google play apps into their store… Oh and what about installing apps on the SD card? Is that option coming back in Win 10 or not? Some of the decisions made at M$ are just ridiculous…

      1. Well, the Google play part is just nonsense… no way will MS integrate a competitors apps store into their store… So just pie in the sky wishful thinking that makes no sense in the real world…

But the SD card issue is real… Basically, MS made it hard to move the Metro/Modern apps onto a SD card… Only Windows Phone 8.1 allowed it… Meaning W8 tablets, laptops, etc with small drive space had no easy way to move apps off the primary drive and onto a external drive like a SD card…

So, it’s a valid question to wonder if MS will continue to do that with Windows 10 but given the higher level of integration between the mobile and desktop versions of the OS, it seems more likely they will make it more flexible now but we’ll have to wait and see to be sure…

But this won’t effect traditional desktop apps as those are only limited by what the installer allows and most will let you select which drive, partition, folder, etc. to install to…

        1. It is indeed annoying. Though Android’s support for SD cards is even worse these days (and IOS has none), so it’s not just Windows Store at fault here.

  2. I am really confused. Microsoft seems to actually be making some good decisions these days. I wonder if they could share some of their mojo with Comcast.
