Xposed Framework is a tool that lets you make system-level changes to a rooted Android phone, bringing many of the features of available in custom ROMs such as CyanogenMod or OmniROM to phones and tablets running stock Android software.

Up until recently, Xposed only supported devices running Android 4.4 or earlier, but in February Xposed developer Rovo89 released Xposed Framework for Android 5.0. Now there’s an unofficial build that works with (some) devices running Android 5.1.

xposed logoDeveloper romracer has been working on tweaks to the Xposed Framework which allow it to work with the latest version of Google’s mobile operating system. Now an alpha version of this unofficial software is available for download from the xda-developers forum.

Some modules that worked with earlier versions of Xposed may not work, and it’s probably a good idea to disable all modules before updating in case any broken modules cause problems that prevent your device from booting or operating properly.

Romracer says he’s looking for testers to help identify and fix bugs — so if you’re hoping for a fully functional version of Xposed with support for all of your favorite modules, you might not want to install this version yet. On the other hand, if you want to help developers get to the point where they can release that version, test away.

Eventually the code Romracer is working on could be incorporated in future official builds of Xposed.
