The makers of the Jide Remix Ultra Tablet wanted to drum up interest in their tablet with a Microsoft Surface-like design, a magnetic keyboard cover, and a custom version of Android that lets you run apps in full-screen or windowed modes. So they launched a Kickstarter campaign, offering 200 early backers the chance to get a tablet for just $39 (one tenth of the eventual retail price).

For some reason, Kickstarter allowed 355 people to make pledges at that level. Chaos ensued… which is to say Jide tried to get a response from Kickstarter for a few days, but then Kickstarter just picked a seemingly random sample of 155 people from the 355 and canceled their pledges.

Jide reached out to many of those affected and offered them the opportunity to move up to the next level and request a tablet for $199 plus shipping costs.

I guess the goal of drumming up interest worked…

  1. It was worse than that and Jude was not innocent. According to all blogs I believe it was only to be open to US only. At the last moment they decided to open it to the whole world practically in order to pad their numbers. then they announced the tiers.it became a free-for-all with people getting kicked out of the process before they had time to complete the process. Badly run and badly set up.

  2. I was going to back it but was too late. They had all the tiers filled.
    Surface 3 looks way better

    1. meh on the Surface 3 it is overpriced by at least $150 for the unit itself plus it uses n-trig instead of wacom, you have to buy the pen to the tune of $50, plus the keyboard for another $100..This is part of the reason I bought the Lenovo Thinkpad 10 twice the ram, better processor, wacom plus pen included all for $400.
I thought Microsoft was on the road to redemption with this offering, but i was mistaken.

      1. Well compared to an iPad the surface 3 wins. Microsoft make real good hardware and software will work almost seamlessly with it since they make windows.
Also the surface 3 is the 3rd tablet I have seen to offer 3:2 ratio. That is my favorite ratio much much better than 4:3,16:10,and 16:9
