Jawbone is updating its UP line of fitness trackers with two new models. The UP2 is A $100 model that offers all the basic features you’d expect from an activity-tracking fitness band including step counting, sleep tracking, week-long battery life, and the ability to sync with iOS or Android apps.
Or for $200 you can opt for the UP4 which does all of those things, but which also has an NFC chip and support for wireless payments thanks to a partnership with American Express.
In other words, after tracking your progress during a workout, the UP4 can help you pay for a snack to reward yourself.
You can pair the UP4 with an American Express card through the UP app for iPhone or Android. But note that the UP4Â only supports American Express and not Visa or MasterCard.
Still, the move kind of makes sense for runners who might like to leave their wallet at home. You can leave the house with nothing but your wristband (and maybe your keys), while still being able to pay for items on the go by tapping your wristband at any store that accepts the payment method.
