Ever notice how the street grids of major cities can look a bit like the map of a video game? No? Well, apparently somebody at Google did… because the company just added a Pac-Man layer to Google Maps.
Load up a map for a location with plenty of streets, tap the Pac-Man button and you can begin chasing ghosts around city streets (while they chase you.
Pac-Man for Google Maps works in web browsers and the latest versions of Google Maps for iOS and Android. Just don’t expect the game mode to stick around very long.
Google is most likely launching the feature as an early April Fools’ Day prank.
Normally April 1st can be a tough time to be in the tech blogging business: the web becomes a minefield of fake news. But this is the sort of prank I can get behind.
You can find more details at the Google Maps blog or find hints for discovering the best place to play (as well as instructions on how to play) at Google’s support page.
This is awesome!
