A few months ago Chinese gadget maker Pipo launched a small computer/TV box with an Intel Atom Bay Trail processor and Windows 8.1 with Bing software. It’s called the Pipo X7 and it sells for about $114 and up at AliExpress.
Now the company has a new model called the Pipo X7S. It has the same basic hardware, but this model dual boots Windows 8.1 and Google Android 4.4 KitKat.
The new model also has a gold-colored case instead of the plain white case that came with the Pipo X7, if that’s the sort of thing that matters to you.
The Pipo X7S features an Intel Atom Z3736F quad-core Bay Trail processor, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, 802.11/b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, and 10/100 Ethernet. It has four USB 2.0 ports, a microSD card slot, HDMI output, and a headphone jack.
Geekbuying is taking pre-orders for the Pipo X7S for $130, and the retailer posted the unboxing video below.
I have the x7s and started off in windows, i booted into android with wintoandroid that was on the desktop and cant seem to figure out how to boot back into windows. Any help would be great. Thank you
NEW: X7-S Z3736(F) Processor 2.16GHz – (Gold Release)
OLD: X7 Z3736 Processor 1.83GHz
I wonder whether this mini PC is fanless?
So are all these machines e.g. the ones made using the 35 processor basically the same?
I mean that would drivers for one board and implementation work with all others ?
Hopefully it has better cooling than the original, but I doubt it. The x7 was crippled by thermal throttling issues.
well…. it’s crap, I got one.
what issues you facing?
Hi can you provide more details on why its crap? Was really looking forward to a dual boot device 🙁
This Version.. Not Released Yet !
People claimed the X7 shipped with no crapware/bloatware aside from the 1-year trialware Office 365. Sadly the X7S seems to still be stuck with the awful Windows 8.1, but at least users will find the more familiar and usable Android available. I’d expect goofy Chinese-oriented 10-foot view launchers to be installed though. The storage is probably still eMMC. Like so many of these little boxes it probably won’t live long enough for people to post real-world-use reviews before the product disappears though.
Win 8.1 works well on an ECS LIVA, but it is not free. 64gb storage is a realistic minimum though.
kill the MS tax, watch the price drop…
These days it seems to rise instead. This because of a perverse interaction between massive volume discounts from MS, and Symantec etc playing to have a “preview” version of their software bundled. In total this may actually make the cost of Windows zero, or even allow the OEMs to make a profit.
I think it also has to do with Intel aggressively increasing its market share in the mobile world. Not to mention whatever agreements MS has with Intel…
It looks nice but no gigabit ethernet and USB3 would be nice.
Great idea. With it came with 64GB.
