It’s pretty easy to take a panoramic photo if you have a camera or smartphone that can stitch multiple shots together, no matter how shaky. However, there is always room for improvement.

The Panoramic Pod is a tripod with a rotating disc that helps you take precision panoramic pictures so you don’t have to worry about following the line or keeping your speed consistent.

Panoramic Pod

The Panoramic Pod was introduced to me via Mixology for $28, but it is also available from Amazon for the same price, or you could walk into an Urban Outfitters today and pick one up for the same price.

The device is made up of a universal smartphone clamp, a rotating pod, and a mini tripod stand with extendable legs. You can either keep the legs short and set up your pano on a tabletop, or extend the legs to the max and set it up on the ground.

The wind up pod rotates up to 240 degrees in about 25 seconds so your smartphone will pan at a steady speed. There is no battery mechanism. Simply wind the pod to the desired degree of pan and let it go.

With the popularity of the “selfie stick,” I can see this little gadget becoming the next big thing. Pretty soon, everyone visiting Yosemite National Park will be taking “Pano Selfies” since you can line up a shot without holding your phone in your hands.

  1. It even holds it wrong for you so that everyone can be further annoyed at your photographic ineptitude.

Ok I suck. Didn’t realize that splicing those together may turn out better, actually.
    Sorry.
