Budget tablet maker E Fun’s first 2-in-1 Android tablet is now available. The E Fun Nextbook Ares 11 is an Android 5.0 tablet with an Intel Bay Trail processor and a detachable keyboard dock.

It’s available from Walmart for $197.

The tablet has an 11.6 inch display and 64GB of storage, a mini HDMI port, microSD card slot, and micro USB port. With those features you might think that this convertible tablet is punching a little above its weight class… but there are a few reasons E Fun and Walmart can sell the Nextbook Ares 11 for under $200.

It has just 1GB of RAM and a 1366 x 768 pixel display. At least it’s an IPS screen with decent viewing angles. It’s powered by an Intel Atom Z3735G Bay Trail processor, which only supports up to 1GB of RAM.

Other features include 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, and 2MP front and rear cameras.

E Fun introduced the Nextbook Ares 11 at the Consumer Electronics Show, along with some Windows models with similar hardware. At the time the company said the tablet would launch in May for $249. It looks like E Fun moved up the launch date and lowered the price.

  1. Sounds like a good deal for this price (backlit keyboard + IPS) even if the screen res is a bit low.

It would probably run a full desktop Linux nicely too. (tablet part with Plasma Active later on)

  2. Not bad for sub-$200. This has appeal to multiple demos.

  3. I like this Nextbook, Android Tablet + Keyboard 2 in1.

I’m glad they included 64 GB of storage.

  4. This is Intriguing, Keyboard included and review on Walmart site says 8-9 hrs battery life.

  5. Given the size of the tablet (at 11.6 inch), I was expecting a better SoC like Intel Atom Z3740 or higher, as well as at least 2GB RAM or more…

    1. You are expecting too much from a $200.00 device. I just picked up one of these and so far I am really impressed with it. There is nothing like this in this price range. It would even be a great deal without the keyboard, which I really do not have too much use for, but I like the 2 full sized USB ports on it. The tablet so far is fast , responsive, and has run the few games I have put on it (Skyforce 2014 being one of them) with no lags.

      1. Have you tried anything like game of war or something similar on it?
