The Samsung Chromebook 2 is an 11.6 inch laptop with an Intel Celeron N2840 Bay Trail processor, a compact design, and the same sort of fake stitched-leather cover on the lid that you’ll find on some recent Samsung smartphones.

Wish the system ran Windows software instead of Chrome OS? It turns out Samsung does offer a Windows version in some markets.

The Samsung NP110S1J has the same case, processor, and screen. But this model has 4GB of RAM instead of 2GB, 128GB of solid state storage instead of 16GB, and it runs Windows 8.1 instead of Chrome OS.

There’s a catch though: I haven’t seen any evidence that this model is offered outside of Asia.

I spotted the notebook in a shop in Hong Kong recently, and noticed that it seems to be available in China as well. In fact, it looks like this may be the same laptop first launched in Samsung’s home market of South Korea in mid-2014 as the Samsung Ativ Book M. At the time it had a slightly less powerful Celeron N2830 processor though, and a relatively high price tag of about $767.

The laptop seems to sell for closer to $540 in Hong Kong, where laptops are typically a little more expensive than in the United States (although there’s no sales tax in Hong Kong).

  1. I have a Samsung with ChromeOS. It works quite well. I can add memory via a micro SD card. It works quite well. I don’t really miss Windows. I like Samsung electronics.

  2. Their revenues are going down and down and….

And here they are, remembering that devices with bloatware from Google like Spydroid will not be helpful.

Unfortunately, no one has missed Samsung since they stopped offering devices for Windows.

    R.i.p.

    1. Saying Samsung is done is almost as ridiculous as those who claim Microsoft is toast. Seems more about wishful thinking than anything to do with the facts.

      1. Pretty sure the guy is trolling, or maybe some kind of crazed fanboy.

        1. Yeah the hate against Google and childish naming automatically gives it away.

      2. To be fair to the guy, Samsung has had a pretty significant, and consistent quarter to quarter, fall in revenue since Q3 2013. A lot of people are blaming stiffer mobile device competition from Xiaomi in particular.

  3. hmm… here’s a neat little laptop, oh Samsung, huh. Oh, it’s got a Celeron with faux stitching? Bet it’s a budget offering… Wait, what?!?!? [SPIT TAKE COFFEE AND SCENE]

  4. I’ve never understood the appeal of Samsung laptops. They’re very overpriced. I find Asus to be far better quality, and much more appropriately priced.

    1. I’m Not willing to spend more than $250 on any kind of Laptop, I don’t care if it comes with bells and whistles, $540 it’s just too much.

  5. I saw this on JD.com as early as about October 2014, the price has been around 2700-3000rmb with 128gb SSD since then. I was tempted to get one but I heard the battery life was not very good (less than 5 hours). Seems kind of shocking since something like the HP Stream 11 gets almost 10….
