The Mobile World Congress (MWC) kicks off in Barcelona Mar. 2 and speculation on what manufacturers will show off is running high. Asus is expected to release a new line of notebooks, Qualcomm might display its new line of chipsets, and now Lenovo is supposedly going to unveil a mobile device that seems more like a full-featured digital camera than a smartphone.

Thai language tech site MXPhone (via Google Translate) has some pretty convincing news about Lenovo’s Vibe Shot. Although this is not an official announcement from the company, the images and available information seem legitimate.

The Vibe Shot will supposedly feature a polished aluminum frame (available in three colors), a 5-inch 1080-pixel resolution display and a 16MP camera.

The camera is the best feature of this smartphone (which is obvious by the name). It will supposedly include a back-illuminated sensor for improved low-light image capture. It will also have a triple-tone flash, infrared autofocus, and optical image stabilization.

The phone part of this smartphone is pretty good, too. It sports Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 615 octo-core chip, 3GB of RAM, a micro SD slot, and 32GB of expandable internal memory. It supports 4G LTE and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity. The device will run on Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Whether the Vibe Shot will appear at MWC is not known. However, if Lenovo is already producing marketing images for the device, it won’t be long before it is announced.

  2. It would be great if this phone is actually available unlocked with US LTE band compatibility and as close to stock Lollipop as possible.

    While I’m on my wish list, why not request a Windows 10 version of the handset and wireless charging as well… 😉

  3. Hopefully it has great battery life. The way to lure customers away from the iPhones is by offering everything it does – just better.
    This has way better internals, and a way better camera. If this thing can at least go a full day with moderate usage, some people could actually buy this thing!

    1. Except that maybe they should learn a thing or 3 from their recently acquired subsidiary aka Motorola. Namely at near stock Android firmware and timelier delivery at that. Also become more dev friendlier would be nice. From my PoV everything else especially on the devices’ front looks all set.

      1. Oh, I would dig the Moto software experience. I have a 2013 X, and I love it.

    2. Everything the iphone but better: more expensive, fewer apps, more years behind Android, crapper battery life, bigger tacky logo. Nope, I don’t think these new devices have a chance at attracting the minority still using Apple phones.

      1. The minority….except in the US, Apple recently sold more than all Android manufacturers put together, and is probably by now the largest smartphone manufacturer in the world. Unless you like to always combine every Android manufacturer, including the junk ones, to say that Apple phones are still part of the minority in the world, then yes, iPhone users are in the minority in the world.

        Lets not try to exaggerate here. If you like it fine, if not, that’s fine too, but you’re just being a fanboy when you make up wrong statistics.

        1. Sorry, but the pot is definitely calling the kettle black in this instance. Everyone (including Apple) knows that this past quarter sales that combined a complete redesign of the iPhone with holiday season shopping, will not be easily repeated in the future. We also know that the US is a fairly unique market for smartphones because of massive subsidizing/financing of smartphones by the major carriers.

          As better phones at lower unsubsidized prices come out, the iPhone advantage will begin to erode again, as it always seems to do, unless and until they can make another major redesign that is compelling enough to be a game-changer–like the larger screen was during this cycle.

          They are quickly running out of major tricks to pull out of their hats. It will be interesting to see how 6s sales fair in comparison next year at this time…

          1. I’m not getting your point on pot calling the kettle black. Apple is also 2nd place after Xiaomi in China, above Samsung.

            And like I said, I could care less why it is popular, but can you tell me any one smartphone manufacturer making more phone than Apple? If not, I really fail to get your response, since my argument was that Apple phones are far from minority being that they probably sold more smartphone than any manufacturer. Unless you like to call Samsung, Sony, HTC, etc, as one Android company, then sure.
