Apple has dropped the beta for iOS 8.3, Apple’s next big update, to developers. The preliminary update appears to include the official launch of iCloud Photo Library, support for Google accounts protected with two-step verification, and support for wireless CarPlay connections.

Users will be able to log into Google accounts more securely by offering support for two-step authentication. iCloud users already have that ability, but this will make the feature native to Google apps.

Wireless CarPlay will probably be provided through Bluetooth or possibly temporary device Wi-Fi similar to how AirDrop works.

The latest beta comes only a week after Apple seeded the fifth beta of iOS 8.2, which means the company is really pushing to get up to speed. It is rare that two iOS updates would be in developer beta at the same time.

It is also being reported that the 8.3 beta will bring minor adjustments to the emoji keyboard, including a new emoji picker, which organizes icons into scrollable lists.

A bold new rumor also surfaced that Apple’s iOS 9 will be little more than a series of bug fixes. 9to5Mac reports that the next major update to iOS is going to include under-the-hood improvements that focus on stability and performance boosts.

There is also a likelihood that transit and indoor mapping will be included in iOS 9, which isn’t expected until later in 2015, at the earliest.

  1. The more Apple gets into the automotive space, the more reliability is going to be a critical issue.

  2. Were you gonna tell us what “iCloud Photo Library” is? I’ve never heard of it before, and this is the first time it has been mentioned on this site (according to Google, anyways).

    1. The short answer is that iCloud Photo Library is a way to store all of your iOS pictures (not just the last 30 days worth) in iCloud so you can get them off of your mobile device, but still be able to access at them anytime. The good news is, it stores RAW files. The bad news is it counts against your iCloud storage capacity.
