The Google Nexus 5 smartphone launched in 2013 and there have been reports that it might be discontinued soon. But it’s still a pretty great device, especially for folks who think the newer Nexus 6 smartphone with its 6 inch screen is just too big.

It can be hard to find a new Nexus 5 though… but the Google Play Store has the phone in stock again (for now).

You can pick up a black Nexus 5 with 16GB of storage for $349 or a 32GB model for $399.

Each model has 2GB of RAM, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, a 5 inch, 1920 x 1080 pixel display, an 8MP rear camera, 1.3MP front camera, a 2300mAh battery and support for wireless charging.

The phone supports 802.11ac WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, and 4G LTE.

I’ve been using a Nexus 5 since shortly after the phone was released, and my only real complaint is that it has less-than-stellar battery life. Some folks who are more picky might also take issue with the fact that it lacks a microSD card reader and removeable battery.

  1. Once you get a phone with microSD, you can’t go back – especially when storage tops out at 32GB like N5.

    1. I find that on a phone at least, I can live without a memory card slot, I just treat it as a phone with mobile internet and stop cramming up on media. That’s what I get tablets for. 🙂

I used to feel the same way as you until I got my first Nexus phone. I still feel the same way about tablets though. I refuse to buy a tablet unless it has a memory card slot.

    2. I used to believe that as well. After getting an LG G2 with 32GB and no expandable storage, I’ve had no problems at all. 32GB would be the minimum, at least for now.

But having said that, all things being equal, I’d prefer to have the expandable memory.

      1. Just picked up a new unlocked G2 for $210… the 32gb holds my music with space to spare for photos/video. I don’t mind the LG customization too much… I skipped on the 32gb nexus 5, and I think I got a better phone.
