Google’s new Android at Work program is an effort to make it easier to use Android phones and tablets in the workplace. Among other things, it allows users to access work and personal profiles on the same device and provides businesses with security and productivity tools.
Android 5.0 already includes enhanced SELinux security and support for multiple user profiles. But there’s also a new Android for Work app which lets smartphone users running Android 4.0 or later create work profiles that are separate from their personal profiles.
This lets you keep your professional and personal email, contacts, documents, and other services separate and allows your IT manager to support your work accounts without touching your personal profile.
There’s also a Google Play for Work service which lets IT managers approve apps before they’re deployed to users.
Android at Work also includes a suite of business apps including versions of its email, calendar, and contact apps which can be used with Microsoft Exchange and IBM Notes in addition to Google Apps for Work.
