The Dell XPS 11 is a 2-in-1 ultrabook with a high-resolution display, a reasonably fast processor, and an awful keyboard. In fact, the keyboard is so bad that it’s probably best to think of this machine not as a convertible notebook, but as a tablet that happens to have a keyboard you can use for short bursts of typing.

When I reviewed the computer last year, I figured that hard to recommend the Dell XPS 11 for the asking price of $1000 and up. But right now you can pick one up for half that price… which could make the XPS 11 an interesting alternative to other affordable tablets.

  1. Based on specs only, that Dell XPS 11 is a great value. There aren’t many 2-in-1s out there with 4gb RAM, and a 128gb SSD in that price range.

That i5-4210y isn’t the most powerful CPU out there, but at least it’s not a Baytrail.

I’m interested in getting a 2-in-1 or an ultrabook, but I think I’m going to wait to see what the Core M brings to the $500-700 price range.

  2. If the keyboard sucks I’d have a hard time justifying it at any price.
