AT&T announced that it is upgrading customers on its $45 and $60 GoPhone plans with 50 percent more data starting Feb. 20. Additionally, customers on the $60 plan now get unlimited calling to Mexico from the U.S., Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.

According to the company’s announcement, new and existing customers on the 1GB plan, which is $45 per month, will receive an upgrade to 1.5GB. Customers in the 2.5GB plan, which is $60 per month, will be upgraded to 4GB. The monthly charge will not change.

AT&T is also bringing together the U.S. and Mexico by offering free calling to the country. My father lives in Mexico and this plan would be great to allow us to maintain communication with each other without dealing with the exponential cost of international calling restrictions.

Both plans include unlimited data, unlimited nationwide talk and text, unlimited texting to Mexico, and Wi-Fi hotspot capability.

AT&T’s GoPhone program provides customers with prepaid mobile devices with no annual contract or credit check. Customers can even provide their own mobile device to connect to the plan.

  1. Since your father lives in Mexico, I thought I would point out that Cricket recently (they announced it on the 10th) added free unlimited calling, texting and picture/video messaging to mexico for their $50 “smart” plan. Thought you might find it interesting. My sister-in-law is from Mexico and got a Cricket phone in January. Since then, only a few weeks, they upped her 4G data allowance from 3GB to 5GB and added the aforementioned free “to Mexico” benefits. She is ecstatic with the new changes to her plan.

  2. Sounds like a good bargain. With better tower priority, that might make up for the increased cost if yo live in an area with heavy AT&T demand

  3. I just stick with the GoPhone “pay as you go” option – no contract at all. As a conservative phone user my total annual cost for service is $100. If I want data there are plenty of WiFi options where I travel.

  4. I’ll stick with Cricket. 2.5 GB for $35 on the same network (and 5 people for $100 and no taxes.). The downside is that you have slower speeds, but that is not a dealbreaker for me.

    1. I too will stick with Cricket 2.5 for $ 35.00. About a month ago, I purchased this option and got a 4G LTE Moto G for $ 25.00 after rebate. It’s been working like a charm I must say. Tremendous value for $ 35/month.

      1. I too shall stick with cricket I get a HTC Desire 510 and $125 credit all for $40 out of pocket after rebates
