Business laptops like Lenovo’s ThinkPad family have been designed to work with desktop docking stations for ages, making it easy to dock your laptop to use it with external devices such as a keyboard, mouse, display, extra storage, or other accessories when you’re at your desk.

But what about when you’re on the go?

Lenovo has just introduced a modular system that feels kind of like a configurable, portable docking station. It’s called the Thinkpad Stack.

thinkpad stack

The Lenovo ThinkPad Stack system is composed of a series of laptop accessories that you can stack on top of one another, allowing you to connect multiple devices to your ThinkPad without a separate cable for each.

Lenovo will offer four modules in April, including a 10,000 mAh power bank, a Bluetooth speaker, a portable hard drive with USB 3.0, and a wireless access point which can share your internet connection by creating a WiFi access point from Etherernet or cellular input.

You can buy all four modules and stack them with a magnetic locking mechanism, or just buy the accessories you want. You can also take use any of these modules when they’re not stacked, so you can take the power bank on the road while leaving the speaker and hard drive at home, for instance.

It’s possible Lenovo could expand the ThinkPad Stack line of products with additional mudules int he future, but if you buy all four devices that’ll be available at launch, you’ll have a stack that measures about 5.4″ x 3″ and which weighs about 1.9 pounds.

  1. This is some good clickbait and trolling. How about … you stop posting the same advertising to 20 different sites?

  2. This is a great concept. To me, this looks like a step away from laptops and toward the phablet+dock dream. Simply add a wireless display, mouse, and keyboard…

  3. “Macbook’s glory” are you mad? Thinkpads were by far the best laptops on market as far as Tx20. xx30 wasn’t that bad, but in xx40 some idiot removed trackpoint buttons, so they are unusable for work. In xx50 trackpoint buttons are coming back, I hope it will be again nearly as good as it used to be.
