The Yoga Tablet 2 8 with Windows 8.1 is the first tablet to feature Lenovo’s new AnyPen technology. That means that in addition to using your fingers to interact with the tablet, you can pick up just about any device with a metal or graphite tip and use it as a pen for writing, drawing, or tapping.
Dell’s showing off the new tablet at CES this week, and I put AnyPen to the test with a real pen, and a Swiss Army Knife.
The verdict? It certainly seems to work as promised.
The tablet doesn’t have an active digitizer or resistive touchscreen. You won’t be able to get pressure-sensitive input from a pen. But you also won’t need to use a special device: just pick up any old pen and you can use it for handwriting, drawing, or to tap items on the screen that might be hard to select using just your fingertips.
Lenovo’s 8 inch Windows tablet has a 1920 x 1200 pixel display, an Intel atom Z3745 Bay Trail processor, and a starting price of $299. It should be available for purchase later in January.
This is actually pretty cool. Once it’s available in stores I will have to check it out to see how accurate it is. I personally don’t need pressure sensitivity when using a pen on a tablet as I don’t paint anything(there may be other uses but I haven’t run into them).
This is the tablet we have all been waiting for! Let’s just hope it comes with 16gb of ram, 4 full-sized usb ports, 1 hdmi, 1 microusb, a 512gb SSD, bluetooth 6.0, two wifi modules, miracast, a separate microphone and headphone jack, a swappable/replaceable 16 hour battery, full 64 bit windows and linux support, dedicated graphics card, a dockable keyboard with a nipple on the keyboard and on the bezel, oh and don’t forget a WACOM pen with an active digitizer!
So how does the screen look? Is it not being scratched by knifes and forks or being splotched with Ink?
