Lenovo’s ThinkPad Stack is a new system of laptop accessories that include a portable battery, hard drive, wireless access point, and Bluetooth speaker.

What puts the Stack in their name is the way they’re designed to work together: you can stack these accessories on top of one another. Magnets make them click into place, and pogo pins allow power to pass from one device to the next — allowing you to charge all of the gadgets or just hook them up to your laptop with a single USB cable.

Lenovo unveiled the ThinkPad Stack system this week, and I got a chance to see a demo showing how the pieces work together.

Not only can you charge all the devices together, but you can combine them for use together. For example, the 10,000mAh battery can be connected to the Bluetooth speaker so you get 48 hours of battery life while playing music rather than just 8.

You can also use the portable hard drive and the wireless access point together so that you have wireless storage that you can access with your mobile device or laptop without connecting a USB cable.

At launch Lenovo will offer these four modules, sold separately or as a bundle. The whole bundle should be available in April.

Eventually the company could add support for additional stackable modules.

  1. Will these work with any computer or are they set up to only work with specific Lenovo machines?

  2. Looks pretty cool. . . however. . .
    Only 5 in a stack. . . that’s the straw.
