Alcatel OneTouch is launching a new line of smartphones that will come in a range of screen sizes and offer a choice of 3 operating systems: the Alcatel OneTouch Pixi 3 will support Android, Windows, or Firefox OS.

Update: Not surprisingly, Alcatel OneTouch doesn’t plan to let you load your choice of operating systems on the phone. Instead, the same hardware will support all three OS options and it’ll be up to carriers to decide which to use.

The company plans to offer models with 3.5 inch, 4 inch, 4.5 inch, and 5 inch screens. Some models will be 3G-only, while others will support 4G LTE.

Alcatel OneTouch will show off the new phones at the Consumer Electronics show next week, where the company will likely reveal more details about the specifications and prices for these phones, but they’re expected to be low-cost phones.

What makes them special is the OS-agnostic approach.

One operating system that isn’t currently supported  though: WebOS. Despite the company’s use of the Pixi name (remember the Palm Pixi?) and reports that Alcatel OneTouch’s parent company TCL is now the proud new owner of the Palm trademark, the latest press release makes no mention of anything Palm-related.

  1. There isn’t any x86 powered phone, so it slould be Windows Mobile(or RT name if you prefer)

  2. Is that Windows Phone, Windows RT, or x86 Windows?
    If Phone or RT, pass.

    1. There isn’t any x86 processor powered phone, so it should be Windows Mobile(or RT name if you prefer)

      1. I think an x86 phone should become a reality with the ability to run desktop apps when connected or casted to an HDTV and mobile apps when acting as a phone that kind of convergence would make windows phone a decent competitor..considering they can make a 7″ HP Stream tablet for $100 MSRP how much more could it possibly cost to add basic things like LTE radios, GSM radios, or CDMA radios?

This way you can have an HTPC, a production suite and a phone all in one device, I mean the tech is definitely tiny enough for this kind of application…
