Actions Semiconductor’s first 64-it processor is on the way. The ATM9009 is a quad-core chip based on ARM Cortex-A53 architecture, and it’s designed for high-end Android tablets and TV boxes.
The chip features PowerVR G6230 graphics, support for HEVC/H.265 4K Ultra HD video playback, and Actions says the processor can handle displays up to 2560 x 1600 pixels.
The chips will support clock speeds of up to 1.8 GHz and should be able to support Android 4.0 Lollipop software.
Actions isn’t the only Chinese company unveiling new chips this month. Rivals Rockchip, MediaTek, and Allwinner all introduced new processors this month as well.
A running theme seems to be support for 4K video playback, which makes sense at a time when display makers are pushing high-resolution screens. While there aren’t a lot of tablets with Ultra HD displays, you may want support for 4K output when using a tablet or TV box connected to a high resolution TV.
thanks jjj!
