As expected, Acer is launching its first Chrome OS laptop with a 15.6 inch display. The Acer Chromebook 15 is powered by an Intel Celeron Broadwell processor and will be available with a 1920 x 1080 pixel or 1366 x 768 pixel screen.

The Acer Chromebook 15 is the first Chromebook from any company to feature a 15.6 inch screen, but it’s not just the display that’s big. The laptop is also rather heavy for a Chromebook, weighing in at 4.85 pounds and measuring 15.4″ x 10.1″ x 1″.

Acer says the notebook features an intel Celeron 3205U processor, solid state storage, and up to 8 hours of battery life.

The laptop features 802.11ac WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, HDMI, USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports, and an SD card reader.

Prices start at $250 for a model with 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, and a 1366 x 768 pixel display. Models with 4GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, and full HD displays will also be available.

  1. Acer Chromebook 15 – Liliputing re-defined? I thought 13 Inches was a stretch. I love the site, but mission creep is now outta control!

    1. it will be slightly offensive if the ram, storage & battery aren’t replaceable at this size. hopefully the storage is one of those modules like in the earlier acer chromebooks & not emmc.

    2. Yeah, but it’s a Chromebook. The LG Chromebase is much larger but no one complained about that. 15″ is the very upper end of what I would expect from this site, but there aren’t many articles about machines that large so it evens out. The “mission” of the chromebook program aligns with this site somewhat also, primarily promoting small portable computers. I’m happy with the balance of articles here.

  2. Is there any info on date of availability? This is fascinating just in relation to Chromebooks but it’s a larger story than that if it’s available soonish as that means Intel is launching Broadwell across the range or from the bottom up. I didn’t expect to see lower end Broadwell chips until well into the year, personally. Though that was just guessing.
