T-Mobile has unveiled a new service called Data Stash, which lets customers roll over unused 4G LTE data from month to month.
Data Stash will roll out to all customers on eligible T-Mobile Simple Choice Plans starting in January, and every customer starts off with 10GB of free data for each line on their plan.
T-Mobile already offers unlimited data for all customers, so what exactly are you rolling over? High-speed data. Customers typically buy a bucket of gigabytes of 4G LTE data. Once you hit that cap, the company throttles your internet connection to a slower 2G speed.
This doesn’t apply to folks who pay extra for T-Mobile’s Unlimited 4G plans.
T-Mobile CEO John Legere says the average customer pays for 4GB or 5GB of data each month, but uses less than half. Data Stash will let customers roll over unused data for use in later months… which could let you sign up for a cheaper plan if you occasionally expect to need a lot of data, but don’t think you’ll need it every month.
Unused data can be rolled over for up to a year.
Data Stash will be available with any T-Mobile Simple Choice Plan that includes 3GB of data or more.
