Polaroid’s Socialmatic Camera is a funny looking camera that gets back to the brand’s roots… with a modern twist. Like a classic Polaroid camera, the new Socialmatic can print pictures. But it uses a ZINK zero ink printer to do it.

The camera also features WiFi and Bluetooth and runs Android software. So if you don’t want to print your pictures right away, you can upload them to Facebook, Instagram, or other social networks.

Polaroid introduced the Socialmatic in September. Now it’s available for pre-order from Amazon for $300 and it should ship in January.

The Polaroid Socialmatic camera has a 14 megapixel camera as well as a 2MP camera facing the user. There’s a 4.5 inch touchscreen on the back which you can use as a viewfinder and to control camera functions (or other Android apps).

It has 4GB of built-in storage and a microSD card reader for extra storage. It can print pictures on 2″ x 3″ ZINK paper.

You can also embed a unique QR code in each photo you snap, allowing anyone to scan the code to view information about the picture.

  1. If it is using ZINK then it should be called “Problematic” instead of “Socialmatic”. I’ve never had good experience with the ZINK printer that I owned.

If this camera actually produced a polaroid photo, I think it would be a hit.

    1. Agreed. Zink is going to be a short lived product. Relaunching the Polaroid Instant Camera would have been their best bet.
