HP’s latest Chrome OS laptop is one of the few Chromebooks to feature a full HD screen. It’s also one of the few to feature a touchscreen… which makes it one of the only models to have both features.
The HP Chromebook 14-x050nr Touch also packs 4GB of RAM, 32GB of flah storage, and an NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor.
It’s available from HP for $440.
HP first unveiled its new NVIDIA Tegra-powered Chromebooks in September, but this model only recently became available for purchase.
The laptop supports 802.11ac WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, has 1 USB 3.0 port, 2 USB 2.0 ports, HDMI output, and features a 14 inch, 1920 x 1080 pixel display. It’s powered by a 37 Wh battery which HP says should provide more than 8 hours of run time.
HP’s Chromebook measures 13.5″ x 9.5″ x 0.7″ and weighs 3.8 pounds.
Priced at $440, it’s a bit expensive for a Chrome OS laptop. But it’s only about a third the price of a Google Chromebook Pixel, one of the few other options for folks looking for a model with a high resolution, touchscreen display (although Google’s laptop has a higher resolution screen and a faster processor than HP’s).
HP continues to offer other Chromebooks with some selling for as little as $280 and some models featuring smaller screens, Intel processors, and other options.

As a beta user, not sure ChromeOS is up to much touch screen input, nor would I really use it at this point in development.
I believe this model is fanless too. Nice.
Tegra 64bit?
With 32gb of storage, any chance of installing something useful on it, like opens use or Ubuntu?
Great. I wonder if more people would prefer a non-touchscreen display with, say, a $50 discount.
Yes. Or better yet, no touch but 64gb…
Yeah, but the microsd card slot can handle that. I just don’t see the interest in a touchscreen for this kinda notebook.
In comparison to my Acer C720P, models like this are nice to think about — but would not allow me the complete freedom to run any Linux distro. Plus, a bit on the expensive side…
My thoughts exactly. The C720 is probably the best Chromebook for tinkering.
I was thinking of picking up a C720 because it looked like a cheap route to get Linux on a small laptop. But now that the Acer E11 is getting cheap $160-180 lately, it looks like the better buy. Has Windows 8, and better linux support. Upgradable ram, and a 2.5″ bay
makes me wish it were an amd-based stream 14, but keeping the 4gb & screen, and allowing you to put something other than win8.1
The $440 pricing makes no sense. The Acer full HD K1 version with 4GB/32GB is currently $325 at Amazon (2GB/16GB for $250) and the Toshiba Chromebook 2 with full HD, IPS screen and 4GB/16GB is often available for $300 (Baytrail not K1).
Both of those have been available for a little while, which means there’s been time for price drops, and neither has a touchscreen.
And in the Windows notebook area, a touchscreen does seem to add about $100.
My bad, i missed the fact that the HP has a touch screen. Thank you for clarifying.
I don’t think that a touchscreen makes much sense on a Chromebook so it shouldn’t raise the price much. These are not convertible machines and why would anyone want to touch a desktop browser?
also, ips/tn?
