Want to get your Amazon delivery quickly? You can pay for same-day or 1-day delivery on many items. In less of a rush? There’s free 2-day shipping for Amazon Prime members. But what if you’re in more of a rush?

Now you can choose 1-hour delivery… if you happen to be a Prime Member living in Manhattan.

Amazon Prime Now is a new service that the company says can delivery tens of thousands of items in about 60 minutes.

Prime Now lets you order items through a mobile app for iOS or Android and have them delivered to your door. You can also use the app to keep track of your courier so you know exactly when your package will arrive.

There’s one (big) caveat. First the service is only available in select areas of Manhattan. So if you’re in Los Angeles… or even Brookly, you can’t use Prime Now, at least not at launch.

Eventually the goal is to expand to additional markets though.

But if you do live within the service area, Prime Now sounds pretty convenient. Amazon offers deliveries from 6:00 in the morning through midnight 7 days per week. 1-hour delivery will cost you $7.99, but if you’ve already ponied up $99 for a Prime membership and don’t mind waiting up to 2 hours for your delivery, Amazon will drop off your package for free.

The retailer says you can order books, toys, and batteries… but Amazon is also taking aim at drug store shoppers by offering delivery of things like shampoo and paper towels as well.

  1. Did you realize, far too late, that you were out of toilet paper? Can you chill on the can for an hour? Well, do I have good news for you, buddy!

  2. only in NY would you have people that cant wait to get their 12th smartphone this year..

  3. Since when is “Now” in about an hour?
This would be great if you killed your phone. You could order a new one and have it delivered to work.

    1. But from the sound of it, you need an mobile app to order, so i guess you better have your tablet with you.
