German electronics company Medion is now offering an inexpensive box that lets you stream content from your phone or table to a TV.

It’s called the Medion Life ZoomBox P89230, and it’s available in France or Germany for 35 Euros, which is about $44 US.

While it’s tempting to think of the ZoomBox as a Chromecast or Roku-style device, it’s actually a bit different. It doesn’t actually pull content from the internet and you can’t use it with a remote control.

Instead, you can use it to mirror your phone or tablet display using Miracast, WiDi, or DLNA technology. This lets you use your phone to find photos, videos or other content and beam them to your TV simply by bringing them up on your phone’s screen. You can also use your TV as a secondary display while you’re playing games, surfing the web, or performing other activities.

In other words, it’s basically a wireless display adapter that turns your TV into a second screen for your phone.

Medion offers a mobile app that lets you configure a ZoomBox on your network. It should also work with any devices that support WiDi or Miracast wireless display including systems running Windows 7 or later and Android 4.2 or later.

  1. I’ve got the Medion Zoombox P89230 since a few days for test purposes. Concerning Michael Thompsons question: I haven’t noticed audio sync problems in Miracast mode so far (but will keep an eye on it). I’m still running the test parcour – but what I’ve seen till now is ok. No lags or delays during image transfer, Music is good, volume control works, videos are running well. The Medion Zoombox P89230 is one of the most reliable Miracast HDMI receivers I have tested so far (and I have tested a lot within the last 12 Months). Currently a series of blog articles will be published on a day by day base. Because my blog adresses German readers, the articles are in German – but Google translate will do the job. For those of you, who are interested, the article series is starting here (https://goo.gl/cyXnL6). Currently I haven’t written the articles about Miracast test with Nokia Lumia 635 (Windows Phone 8.1) and the DLNA related stuff. HTH

  2. I wonder if it experiences the same problems with audio sync?
My miscast (misspelling left for effect) adapter is about useless because of that flaw.

  3. It’s called Medion, not Median. Most of the time these Medion products are available at ALDI. This time only in the online shop.
