You don’t have to wait for Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving) to score a good deal on a tablet, laptop, or other gadget. There are some pretty great deals all throughout the year.
But if you do plan to do some shopping around the holiday season, we’re expecting some pretty good deals this year.
The Asus EeeBook X205TA laptop is normally pretty cheap thanks to its $200 price tag. But Staples will be selling it for just $100. Several stores are selling the Kindle eReader for $30 off. And Best Buy has some great deals on Android, Windows, and Apple tablets.
Update: Don’t want to wade through old deals that might be sold out? Check out our updated Cyber Monday 2014 mobile tech deals.
Here are some of the best Black Friday deals we’ve found so far. Note that some of these sales begin on Thanksgiving. I’ve tried to make notes of the start times when available.
Note that Walmart deals are in-store only unless they’re marked as online-only.
You should also note that some deals may be available in-stores, but not online or vice versa. And you might want to bookmark this page, since I’ll be updating this list as more stores announce their Black Friday and Cyber Monday plans.

Anyone know where I can get keyboard cases/folios for 8″ tablets that also has a trackpad or mouse nub? Touch is great and all but when it’s time to pull out the keyboard, a mouse pointer becomes very useful as well.
Agh, looks like the Asus X205 deal is only for US addresses (they even block Canadians from viewing the page). I used a proxy, but they won’t even ship to my favorite parcel pickup service over the border.
I’ll have to wait to see if Best Buy does their $140 deal again.
So I just stepped into my nearby Staples today (Thanksgiving night). They were open until 10 PM and I was the ONLY ONE in the store. A manager looking guy asked if I wanted to buy a $99 Windows notebook. I shrugged, sure why not — I knew it was the ASUS X205. They didn’t have any in-store but I had to pay then and pick it up on Monday or Tuesday. So I went ahead and ran it on my card. I’ve been happily using a 4-year-old Chromebook as a secondary computer, and have been thinking of upgrading to something faster, but I guess it could be this ASUS instead. If it’s not good — doesn’t work well for my needs (browsing, online video), I figure I can just eBay it for a modest profit later.
I love mine. It’ll run all your basic tasks with no trouble, and even handles HD video smoothly on youtube and Netflix. And best of all (cue angelic chorus) the keyboard doesn’t suck. It even has Bluetooth and dual-band wifi. I hope to snag one for my clumsy nieces and nephews this morning for school. If not, they’ll probably go on sale for $140 again, which is still a great price.
The X205 was on sale at Best Buy and Amazon for $140 on Tuesday, so I grabbed one for research purposes. It’s a *surprisingly* good little machine. I haven’t tried any games on it, but it’s plenty zippy for everyday tasks, and it plays 1080p video from youtube perfectly smoothly. Plus, the keyboard doesn’t suck like my last netbook’s did (*koff* Lenovo S10 *koff*). I have plenty of online storage and a few 64GB microSD cards lying around, so I’m not overly bothered by the limited storage. I can see these things selling like hotcakes for kids and the email/facebook-only crowd.
I bought one on the same deal. I like having a disposable laptop, because I don’t have to think twice about what might happen to it when I toss it in my backpack or tuck it under my arm. For browsing and document editing, it works great. Battery life is awesome. I have noticed some problems with two finger gestures if your fingers are too close together, but if I make a V with my fingers I have no trouble. It was a great purchase at $140.
I’ve been using it off an on for a couple days, and am genuinely happy with it. I have no trouble at all with typing on its keyboard, unlike netbooks of yore. Plus, I scored a crap-ton of music for pennies with the ongoing sale at Microsoft’s music app. It made me hate Windows 8 slightly less. I hope Asus sells a ton of ’em.
Is that staples deal for Asus x205 in store or online?
In store. I tried to buy online, then decided to stop by the store, and they sold me one, but I have to pick it up on Monday or Tuesday. I think it’s not going to be in-store on Friday.
Like anyone is going to get a X205 for that price on Black Friday!!! Most likely you will wake up early and get there just to be told they are all sold out but hey look at all our other products and spend your money. Which you will most likely do since you dragged yourself out of bed already.
I am sat at home with an X205 right now and couldn’t be happier.
looks like that Asus x205 is gonna be real popular. hope my staples isnt crowded and i can get one easily. i could just supplement the storage issues with an sd card or an external hardrive.
there’s still frys electronics, hopefully they have a good deal out there
I think there will be plenty of these as I believe Asus is coming out with a newer model. I got my smaller list figured out. I am hoping the Stream 14 drops in price or I might get one of these 10-11″ small laptop or tablet since the CPU in most of these are the same 1.8Ghz Quad Core Atom CPU.
I have a laptop, but I was interested in the X205 with its weight, battery, and price. Half off I might have to pick on up now.
If the Asus X205 can run Linux, I’m definitely in the market.
that is an afirmative, mr. eisenberg. as black friday dawns, you will be bmoc/bmiyn…etc (big man on campus/big man in yr neighborhood… et cetera) sitting in yr pj’s @home or @yr local starbucks… et cetera confusing your wife/roommate/fellow coffee addicts…et cetera, typing away on a machine *labeled* “windows 8.1,” whilst you are subverting the dominant paradigm, imagining linus torvalds smiling over yr shoulder in that curiously comforting/vaguely horrifying manner, exemplifying just one of the few notable, but harmlessly bizarre ways that the Finns differ from their Nordic brothers & sisters, all the while running linux on a windows licensed laptop.

SHORT answer?
yes. run Linux all over that thing…i personally plan to get the cheap tablet on offer while @ OfficeMax as well as the X205 and work out a little ‘ Linux / Ubuntu ‘ dance!
Namaste.
postscript: ill post the link that had the info re: Linux on the Asus X205 when i find it.
I promise to be brief in that post.
I’m hoping all the hardware works well under Linux. Also, with non-upgradeable RAM, I’d probably use zRAM for a compressed RAM allocated swap space.
“Apple iPod touch (5th gen) w/16GB for $150 – Best Buy (Starting Nov 27th)”
Is this the one with the 5.0 MP rear camera? Or the one without? BestBuy sells both. Regularly $189 with rear camera. $179 without.
This is the one that has no rear camera.
I’ll definitely be picking up 1 or 2 of the Asus X205s. Hopefully they have a choice of colours.
