HP is getting ready to launch a new Bluetooth headset with stereo earbuds. There’s nothing too shocking about that, but the HP H5000 headset looks like a kind of interesting option since it basically consists of a small Bluetooth receiver with an audio jack, which means you may be able to plug in 3rd party headphones.

The headset showed up this week at the FCC website.

Support pages on the HP website suggest the HP H5000 will come in a few different colors, including neon orange and neon purple. Photos from the FCC also show a black model.

The earbuds have an in-line microphone for making phone calls, and the receiver itself has volume, forward, reverse, and play/pause buttons as well as a micro USB port for charging the device.

There’s also a button which you can use to answer calls, end calls, turn on the device, or perform other actions such as pairing the device with a phone. There’s also a status LED which blinks to alert you about incoming calls, low battery, charge status, and more.

This isn’t the first Bluetooth headset with detachable earbuds. But I believe it may be the first such model from HP.

  1. Sony SBH20 looks very similar too, but I think it was also discontinued.

  2. This could be a suitable replacement for my aging HTC SH S600 that HTC discontinued even though it is unparalled as a product. Though HP doesn’t have a much better track record when it comes keeping products around.
