Chinese chip maker Allwinner makes low-cost processors that are most often found in inexpensive Android tablets. But the company is going after the TV box market with its new Allwinner H8 processor.
Allwinner says the new 8-core ARM Cortex-A7 processor is designed for game consoles and other set top boxes.
The chip features PowerVR SGX544 graphics and support for 1080p HD video playback at 60 frames per second using H.265.
Other features include HDMI, USB, and Gigabit Ethernet support, and three controllers for SD cards.
While Allwinner says the new H8 processor is designed for TV applications, it’s worth noting that some of the company’s other chips support 4K video playback, while the H8 chip does not.

Do these guys really develop anything or do they just rebrand last year’s stuff from Rockchip?
Alwinner always talks a good game but seems to come up short in actual performance.
Does Rockchip even make an 8 core chip?
It would be nice if it wasn’t just an A7 though.
