As expected, Sony is launching two new wearables. The Sony Smartwatch 3 is the company’s first device to run Google’s Android Wear software — and it’s one of the first to feature support for new Android Wear features including GPS.
The company is also unveiling the SmartBand Talk, a fitness tracker with an e-paper display.
Both should be available this fall.
The Smartwatch 3 offers up to 2 days of battery life, a waterproof case, and support for notifications, music controls, and other basic Android Wear features. It also supports Sony apps including the company’s Lifelog app.
You can also pair a Bluetooth headset with the watch so you can use it to listen to music even when your phone isn’t around.
The watch has a 1.6 inch, 320 x 320 pixel TFT LCD transflective display, 4GB of storage, and a built-in mic for voice controls.
The SmartBand Talk offers up to 3 days of battery life thanks to its low-power 1.4 inch e-paper screen and less demanding software.
As the name suggests, this model has a microphone and speaker, as well as sensors for activity tracking. You can use them to answer phone calls while your phone remains in your pocket.
Like most of Sony’s recent mobile products, the SmartBand Talk is water and dust proof.
The SmartWatch 3 is expected to sell for €229 when it launches in Europe this fall. The SmartBand Talk will be a bit cheaper at €159. US pricing hasn’t yet been revealed.
Yeah, soon governments everywhere will make it mandatory to wear this crap…
