Samsung is adding two new models to its line of big-screen, pen-equipped smartphones. The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is a 5.7 inch phone with an aluminum frame and a fake leather rear panel.
The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge is an entirely new type of device which has a curved display that actually wraps over one side of the phone’s case.
The Galaxy Note 4 has a 5.7 inch, 2560 x 1440 pixel AMOLED display, a 2.7 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB to 64GB of storage. It has a 16MP rear camera, and a 3.7MP front-facing camera. It also has a fingerprint sensor and the phone is powered by a 3220mAh battery.
In other words, it’s one of the most powerful Android smartphones you’re likely to find this year.
In some regions the phone will have a Samsung Exynos 5433 octa-core processor instead of the Snapdragon chip.
Samsung says the phone uses 7.5 percent less power and gets longer battery life than the Galaxy S3. It also features a quick charging feature that allows the battery to go from 0% to 50% with about 30 minutes of charging.
Samsung says it’s improved the S Pen experience by offering twice the pressure-sensitivity and added new software modes including “fountain pen” and “calligraphy” modes.
The phone measures 0.33 inches thick and weighs 6.2 ounces. It’ll be available in black, white, gold, and pink.
Samsung’s Galaxy Note Edge has the same basic hardware as the Note 4… but it has a curved display that wraps over the edge of the phone.
This model actually has a higher resolution 5.6 inch display thanks to the extra row of 160 x 2560 pixels along the edge of the screen which can be used for on-screen menus, time and date, or other functions. When you’re using apps like the S-Note tool, image editing buttons move to the edge of the display so you can use the front for viewing images that aren’t covered by icons.
You can also watch full-screen videos while the play, pause, and other controls move to the edge display.
Samsung will also offer an SDK for developers to tap into the extra display on the edge of the phone. The company will also offer flip cover cases that leave the edge screen exposed even when the main screen is covered, so you can view notifications or other data while the cover is closed.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 will be available starting in October, while the Galaxy Note Edge is scheduled to launch in select markets later this year.
Looks to be harder and harder to find an excuse to buy yet another one of these before the old one actually died…

That Galaxy Note Edge looks very interesting! I will definitely be checking that out when it releases!
