Firefox beta for Google Android now lets you stream web video to a TV through a Roku or a Chromecast. Mozilla added initial support for the feature to its nightly releases of Firefox about two months ago, but now that most of the kinks are worked out you can try the feature just by downloading the latest Firefox beta from the Google Play Store.

If you’d rather not play around with beta software, you’ll probably see this feature in the next stable release of Firefox for Android.

firefox send to device

When you use Firefox beta to surf the web on a network that also has a Roku or Chromecast connected you should see a Cast icon in the URL bar. Tap it and you can choose the Send to Device feature.

There’s a media control bar which shows up at the bottom of the screen when a video is streaming to a device, allowing you to play, pause, or close a video. The media bar shows up even if you navigate to a different browser tab.

Chromecast support should be pretty much automatic, but if you want to stream content to a Roku you’ll need to add the Firefox channel to your device’s channel list.

Mozilla notes that not every web video will work. If you find a video in a format that your TV box doesn’t support, it won’t stream.

You can read more about the new Send to Device feature at the Mozilla blog.

Or you can just use the Google Chrome web browser, which already supports Chromecast streaming (but not Roku).

I don’t think it does on Android?
