LG appears to be working on a smartwatch that can connect to the internet without pairing with a smartphone. An unannounced LG-VC100 device described as a Smart Watch + CDMA showed up at the FCC website recently.
If it’s anything like LG’s other smartwatches, it’ll probably run Google’s Android Wear software and allow you to view notifications from an Android phone on your wrist.
But like the Samsung Gear S, this model may be able to do many things even when you leave your phone at home.
For instance, you may be able to receive text messages, email messages, or other notifications. You may even be able to use it to make or receive phone call.
It’s not clear at this point what kind of software the watch is running, what kind of hardware is under the hood, or even what the watch looks like — although the label drawing suggests it could have a long screen with rounded edges rather than a square or circular watch face like those on the LG G Watch and G Watch R.
But the FCC documents do suggest the smartwatch has a USB port for charging and a headset jack for… a headset.
