Lenovo is updating its Miix line of Windows tablets with a new low-cost 8 inch model. The Lenovo Miix 3 8 is launching first in China, but the Lenovo Miix 3 8 is likely to show up in other countries soon. It already passed through the Indonesian version of the FCC recently.

The Lenovo Miix 3 8 features a 7.85 inch, 1024 x 768 pixel IPS display, an Intel Atom Z3735F quad-core Bay Trail processor, 2GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage.

It has a 15Whr battery for up to 7 hours of run time and the tablet has 2MP front and rear cameras, 802.11b/g/n WiFi and a MicroSD card reader.

The tablet measures 0.36 inches thick and weighs 13.2 ounces.

In many ways the older Miix 2 8 inch tablet is a better device. It has a 1280 x 800 pixel screen, a faster Intel Atom Z3740 processor, up to 64GB of built-in storage, and a 5MP rear camera as well as a 17.5Whr battery for up to 8 hours of run time.

But the Miix 2 8 is also a more expensive tablet. It’s still available in China for ¥ 2499 ($407 US), while the new Miix 3 8 sells for ¥ 1499 ($244 US). Note that those prices are the suggested retail prices in China. The Miix 2 sells for much less in the United States, and it’s possible that the Miix 3 will as well.

  1. I just received a Lenovo MIIX 3 8 and it has chinese language during startup. How do I change to English Language from the Startup Screen?

  2. I have Miix 2 8 and I love it .. I don’t see anything new in Miix 3.
    What’s its processor?

  3. I live in Indonesia and I just snicker when I see these Lenovo products going through certification here. We’ll likely NEVER see these products sold here, and if we do, actual stock will be illusive and the prices will be astronomical compared to elsewhere in the world.

  4. So it looks like first 4:3 Windows 8 tablet from well known brand?
Thats one thing to be excited about, resolution isnt tho.

  5. The miix2 has a digitized screen and pen. Does the Miix3 also have this?

    1. Too early to say, not enough details released yet… but it seems doubtful as they’re going cheaper with this release… Active digitizer pens are still mainly a premium tablet offering in most cases, with few exceptions…

Mind, in many cases the cheaper tablets with pens don’t have the best driver support and the pen won’t perform as well… So, wait for the reviews if they do release one…

      1. Indeed. I’m considering a mini tablet soon to complement my workflow. I’d love to have one with a digitizer, but the reports are less than inspiring so far.

  6. All PC OEMs are moving downmarket this year, with Win8 a failure and MS already beating the drums for Win9. The only sales pitch available now is lower prices. Those looking for more features/performance will have to wait until next year.

    1. Uh, no… otherwise they wouldn’t still be coming out with the more premium Core M products this year!

Besides, this has more to do with Intel than MS… They’re trying to compete with ARM in the mobile space and that’s not easy…

Never mind Windows on tablets has never been a booming market…

Prior to Windows 8 they represented less than 1% of the market! Now we got fairly successful products like the Asus Transformer Book T100, and a few others that have actually sold very well… and they’ve already sold more W8 tablets than the entire history of Windows tablets prior!

So, you gotta stop harping on Windows 8 as being the cause of everything when it clearly is not!

Intel is presently so bent on competing with ARM that they’re subsidizing the costs of their SoCs to better compete and that includes the Android and Chromebook devices they’re coming out with and not just Windows!

While they have to deal with the delays with their 14nm FAB, as Braswell is the platform they optimized for better costs so they can stop relying on subsidizing the costs but won’t come out until the second half of 2015… Meaning, till then they have to make a dent in the market with what they got and without better costs they have to cut corners for now…

But in the premium Space, Core M will at least start coming out soon and offer near U series performance but still be able to go fan-less and that means much thinner and lighter tablet designs as even the MS Surface Pro 3 still needed active cooling and that limited how thin and light they could make it and also meant it needed a larger battery to provide a good enough run time…
