HP’s most affordable Android tablet could be getting an update soon. The HP 7 Plus is an entry-level tablet with pretty basic specs and a $100 price tag.

Now it looks like an updated model is on the way. An unannounced tablet called the HP 7 Plus G2 showed up at the FCC website this week.

There are few details in the FCC listing, but the tablet is said to feature 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth, and mobile broadband with support for GPRS, EDGE, WCDMA, and HSPA networks.

The original HP 7 Plus features a 7 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display, an Allwinner A31 ARM Cortex-A7 quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, a microSD card reader, WiFi, and up to 5.5 hours of battery life.

It’s possible that the new HP 7 Plus G2 will have the same basic features plus the addition of Bluetooth and 3G capabilities. But it’d be nice to see HP’s next entry-level tablet add some more memory, storage, or screen resolution or gain a faster processor.

At the very least I would hope the new model will run a more recent build of Android: the original HP 7 Plus still ships with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.

  1. I guess their supplier came out with an updated model or something.
HPs just doing that important work of where to screen their logo.

  2. I’d only be interested in this if it was unlocked for global
use, and eligible for T-Mobile’s free 200 MB/month cellular
data plan “for life”. Otherwise, yawn and move on.
