Some companies refer to their flagship phones and tablets as “hero” devices. Alcatel OneTouch goes a bit further and actually uses Hero in the name of its top-of-the-line devices… like the new Alcatel OneTouch Hero 8.

It’s an 8 inch Android tablet with a an aluminum case, a 1920 x 1200 pixel display and a Mediatek MTK 8392 octa-core processor.

The tablet should be available for purchase in September.

The Alcatel OneTouch Hero 8 features 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, and has a 5MP rear camera and 2MP front-facing camera. It has a 4060mAh battery, 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, and 4G LTE support. It’ll even support phone calls in markets where that feature is enabled. It also supports the Miracast wireless display protocol.

There’s also an infrared sensor that allows you to use the tablet as a TV remote, a microSD card slot for removable storage, and optional NFC support.

The tablet measures 8.2″ x 4.8″ x 0.29″ and weighs 11 ounces.

Alcatel OneTouch will offer a range of accessories including a Bluetooth device called the Sidekick 2 which acts like a handheld device for responding to messages, controlling video or music playback, and performing other functions without touching the tablet.

There’s also a MagicFlip LED case which can alert you when there are incoming messages even when the case is covering the screen.
