Kobo is getting ready to launch their first waterproof eReader. A new device called the Kobo Aura H2O showed up at the FCC last week, and according to a post from now-retired leak expert Evan Blass in July, that’s the name of Kobo’s new water and dust-proof eReader.
The tablet features a 6.8 inch display just like last year’s Kobo Aura HD. But the new model is also has an IP67 rating which means its totally dust-proof and protected against water at depths of up to 1 meter (or about 3.3 feet).
There aren’t many other details available about the device yet, but it’s built by hardware manufacturer Netronix, and if it’s anything like the Kobo Aura HD (and a new Netronix eReader with a Wacom pen we heard about recently), we can probably expect the Kobo Aura H2O to feature a 1440 x 1080 pixel display, an illuminated display, WiFi, and a microSD card reader.
If you don’t need a waterproof case, last year’s mode is on sale for $150 right now, which is $20 off the list price.
