Novelty USB flash drives are a dime a dozen (almost literally… cheap USB flash drives are really cheap these days). But PNY has found a way to produce a portable storage device that stands out by partnering with beloved toy maker LEGO.
The new PNY LEGO USB flash drives are fully compatible with regular LEGO bricks, so not only can you store up to 16GB of data on a pocket-sized flash drive… you could also use it as a building block for a house, car, horse, spaceship, or abstract art creation.
PNY offers 8GB and 16GB version of the LEGO flash drive and each one comes with an extra LEGO brick so you can build… whatever you can build with 2 bricks. A slightly more colorful flash drive, I suppose.
The USB connector doesn’t require a cap. Instead you can slide it out from the brick. There’s also a key fob in the back so you can attach the brick to a keychain.
PNY says the flash drive will be available in blue, red, and yellow but so far it looks like the only models on sale are blue flash drives with spare red bricks. Best Buy is selling 8GB and 16GB models for $7.99 and up.
Sadly these are only USB 2.0 flash drives. PNY doesn’t offer a faster USB 3.0 version yet.
